Kitchen renovation design: Commercial products worth considering for a domestic kitchen (Part 1)

December 15th, 2010

This post is partially items that you may actually consider going commercial for with your new kitchen renovation. It is also partially items that you would love to go commercial for, and may very well, in a brash impulsive act that will have others shaking their heads and you beaming with pride.

1. From range hood to hardcore extractor… for woks!

Firstly, why would you want to have a cavernous behemoth of a ducted air extractor looming above your range hood? Why, for your industrial strength wok burner of course! If you do enough wok cooking you know the importance of brute force when it comes to your wok burner. Multiple rings and lots of juice, and don’t even let the taboo word “electric” pass over your lips. I fondly remember a wok burner outdoors hooked directly into an industrial sized propane tank that appeared more a jet burner than a wok burner. This particular setup had the atmosphere as its range hood, but for those more inclined to the indoors if you want the right burner you also need the right range hood. And that means going commercial.

2. Teppanyaki

You won’t find the teppanyaki setup in most kitchens, but if this is your thing then surely the idea of a massive hotplate installed at a kitchen bench is making you feel a little funny right now. This wont necessarily be fired up each and every night and indeed would probably fond itself as a separate setup apart from your normal kitchen bench. But the return on social events will be worth it, not to mention the casual mention of your teppanyaki grill at home.
