Small: Kitchen Renovations in Sydney
October 19th, 2010For those who have had the “pleasure” of renting, nay, owning a small apartment, matured some 30 years (perhaps somewhere in Lane Cove North), we are all familiar with its kitchen. Laminated floors, tiles coming unstuck. Chip board cupboards, slowly disintegrating. The arthritic range hood that has been waiting 15 years to have its ineffective filter changed. And indeed I can go on describing many existing kitchens in the Willoughby, lane Cove and Chatswood area… But what is most notable is the constricting, constricting space. Only one place to do your prep work which finds you placing things in all manner of places from the top of the fridge to the sink. Well, many of you have bought this apartment with the intention of renovation and thus maximising your investment so listen up, here’s what to consider when getting your small kitchen renovated.
- Increase counter top space!!! There is nothing more precious, more coveted than open room to work. This can be done by
- Get red if the faff, knife blocks, gadgets, appliances, breadbins etc Not sure what the first few words are meant to say. ‘Get rid of the clutter?’
- Have a pullout countertop installed
- Reduce the size of the sink (but not too small!)
- Use the wall space, hang things, put up one of those funky magnetic knife racks (you know you want to)
- Drawers not Doors – These effectively maximise your space
- Opt for a pull out Garbage bin as opposed to the floor unit that seems to slowly migrate around the kitchen.
- Same as you will see in the small bathrooms blog. Have your cabinets go to the ceiling.
- Knock down a wall and make it open plan, that wall could become one giant countertop between you and your living/dining area
